Kate Durand and Ian Holcomb as Kelly and Craig in a tense moment.

Kate Durand and Ian Holcomb as Kelly and Craig in a tense moment.

After a short break on November 4th and 5th, we are back into the last few chances to see Dying City.  It will be interesting to see the play again after all the mounting tension of the election is finally relieved.  In this play, which takes place in the context of the war in Iraq, the question of leadership is immense.  To finally know that Barack Obama will be the next president… I’m not sure how it will change the shape of the story which takes place at a worsening period of the war, in 2004 and 2005.  Perhaps it will illuminate, a bit, the dark place in our history that we are now trying to walk away from.  If you haven’t seen it, I hope you will, if only to see the astonishingly good performances by Ian and Kate.

Opening Night!

Dying City opens at the Bottling House tonight. We’ve had a few invited dress sneak peeks in the last week and are definitely feeling ready for an audience. Eric says he excited but a little nervous, a sentiment that I’m sure the rest of the company shares.

We also say good bye to Will today. He’s off to New York to work on his next project and won’t get to see the opening. Ah, the life of a theater artist…

So we’re doing all the last minute stuff and getting everything ready. We can’t wait to see you all at the show!

Hello everyone,

Tonight is a special sneak peek performance of Dying City, the amazing new play by Christopher Shinn. This production is the Midwest premiere, and the debut project of The Bottling Company, a new Minneapolis-based ensemble dedicated to Politics, Classics, and Film. If you’d like to come tonight (Monday Oct. 27) please RSVP to thebottlingcompany@gmail.com to reserve a spot.

We ran the play last night, with Will and Jack and I watching and learning. Now, to continue leaping forward with the piece, we need an audience. Please join us! If you can’t come tonight, I hope you’ll come to the proper run, which opens this Saturday November 1st. There’s a Sunday show, and a special Monday night, pre-election show, with a secret event afterwards. Stay tuned to the blog for more details about November 3rd. Then on Tuesday, we’ll all go out and get civic

Hope to see you there!

-Eric
